Despite Parkinson's, Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan Celebrate 30 Years of Marriage
Instead of backing down, Pollan and Fox have worked tirelessly to raise money for Parkinson's
From 1991 to 1996, Fox had multiple movies that were coming out and he returned to the silver screen as the lead in Spin City. When he was on Spin City, everyone discovered he had Parkinson’s. He did have brain surgery to relieve some of his tremors caused by Parkinson's disease, but his life was no longer the same. Fox was no longer Marty McFly or Alex P. Keaton. Instead, he became the celebrity face of a disease that has no cure.
Tracy Pollan and Michael J. Fox have worked tirelessly since then to raise money for research and to bring awareness to the disease through the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Their foundation has funded more than a billion dollars, and they are still raising money for patients and research.
"The reason I wasn't telling was that I wondered if people would still laugh if they knew I was sick," Fox told Oprah Winfrey. "Can you laugh at a sick person [on TV] and not feel like an a--hole? I finally thought, Let me not worry about that. What other people think is none of my business. I just have to have faith in the audience. If it's funny, they'll laugh." In 2000, Michael J. Fox left Spin City in order to focus more on his foundation.
