9 Products that Are Shockingly Packed with Gluten
3. Oats
Essentially oats should be gluten-free since they aren’t a type of wheat, barley or rye grain, the three groups of whole grains that naturally contain the protein gluten. Instead of containing gluten, oats actually have a protein called avenins. Most people with gluten sensitivities will not have a reaction to oats but there is still 1% of celiac patients that can have a violent reaction. Be cautious until you know for sure. And always consider the cross contamination especially if the oats are manufactured in a facility that also produces wheat, barley or rye.
