The Whole30 Diet: Too High in Sodium & Leaves Out Healthy Food Groups
According to the US News World Report, this diet isn't a diet to begin with. It is not recommenced because it is high in sodium, low in calcium and cuts out many important nutritional food groups like healthy beans and grains. Instead this diet is meant to eliminate your cravings, rebalance your hormones, cure your issues with digestion, improve any medical conditions and boost your energy and immune system. So, if you lose any weight, then it's just a bonus. It's supposed to help you get rid of your bad eating habits. So, this diet isn't the quick fix that you might be looking for. This diet was created in 2009 by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig, and is only about 30 days long. These are just some of the rules involved with the Whole30 diet:
- No sugar
- Alcohol (includes cooking wine)
- Grains (Yes, all grains)
- Legumes
- Dairy
- No sweets (even if they do not have the restricted ingredients, like dairy-free ice cream)
- No counting calories or weighing yourself
The goal of this diet is definitely not weight loss. But, it is to pay attention to the benefits outside of it. This diet is not ideal, however, if you aren't committed to it. And, if you're wondering about the healthy and nutritional aspects with this diet, it ranked as the worse of the worse in the US News World Health Reports as it does not cite much research, has extreme claims, and is very restrictive.
