Evaluating Dietary Supplements: What Should Celiac Patients Know?
Course of action
According to the co-author of the Celiac Disease Center’s study and member of the CDF Research Committee, Dr. Benjamin Lebwohl, there are some leads to develop and improve the non-dietary therapy for patients with celiac disease to make it more effective. However, none of them gave a solid proof and not all of them are available. Because of the freedom received by the dietary supplement industry, these glutenases can be sold even without the assurance of its effectiveness and safety. He also suggested to those who are interested in these glutenases, especially to those who have celiac disease, that the best and effective way to do is to participate in a clinical trial in order to be guided with the effects of these supplements and also to help in proving the treatment that these supplements bring.
As a course of action, there are solid and better researches being conducted regarding the enzyme therapy in order to improve the treatment of the celiac disease. Some of these studies and research are already in clinical trials.
