7. If you've had an appendectomy
If you’ve had your appendix removed after the age of 10, you are more likely to get Crohn’s within 4 years of the surgery. The risk increases almost 7 times during the first year following its removal.
The risk however is controversial. Other studies suggest inconclusive results. It is agreed that the more years pass, the less of a risk it becomes. Some scientists suggest that the pain that leads to appendectomy could be a mis-diagnosed Crohn’s symptom.
