Research was also conducted for new ways to maintain blood sugar levels in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes. Through an international study where women with type 1 diabetes who were also pregnant were studied, researchers learned that it was much easier to stay within a target blood sugar range while wearing a glucose monitoring device.

Since fluctuating blood sugar levels are much more likely during pregnancy and much more difficult to regulate and it has been linked to severe birth defects and infant illness, these findings are a real success. This study will hopefully help women with type 1 diabetes maintain a healthy pregnancy and keep both mom and baby healthy after delivery.
