A Caregiver's Guide to Lupus
Don't forget about YOUR mental health
Mental health is equally as important as physical health when you are a caregiver. You will go through a multitude of emotions and moods as you try and help someone, and that is normal. You may feel you’re out of control and sad because you can’t fix everything. If you have guilty feelings that you have not done enough, you need to realize that you cannot do it all and keep your temper in check all the time.
Accept how you are feeling. If you need a break, then take a break. The caregiver needs care, too. Strong emotions are a part of caregiving, and it takes a special person to take on caregiving duties. Recognize your emotions, understand them, and avoid burnout.
