Are Married Couples Less Likely to Get Alzheimer's?

Be more social

Be more social

By nature, humans are social creatures. Isolation is not good for the heart, body and mind. Believe it or not, getting together with friends and family plays a big role in protecting against dementia

If being the life of the party does not sound appealing, there are other ways to ensure that your social life doesn’t dwindle away.

  • Join a social group like a book club or walking group
  • Visit the local community center for senior drop-in programs
  • Volunteer; hospitals, schools, and even retirement homes are always looking for people to help with a variety of tasks
  • Try taking a new class; community centers, libraries and local colleges often have a number of continuing education programs aimed for seniors or those who may be at risk of dementia
  • Host a weekly card game with old friends; be sure to include lots of snacks, and laughter
