Autism in 2017: The Year in Review
New interest in the cerebellum
While researchers are certain autism isn’t ever isolated to one particular region, they do know that it affects regions differently and they’re still working to understand why that is. Research from 2017 also renewed scientists’ interest in the cerebellum. Some studies indicated that the cerebellum could be a key area for treatment to mitigate some of the effects of autism. While the cause of autism and many other aspects of the condition remain mysteries, the medical community certainly made numerous strides towards better understanding how the different parts of the brain play a role in the condition.
