Can Ayurvedic Medicine Help Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Patients?
Ojas, or the metabolism, also becomes compromised
As time moves on, the metabolism or breakdown of your tissues is compromised. The final stage in both fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome become involved. Ojas, or the last spirit of the tissue's metabolism and the first support for the immune system, is depleted. This depletion causes the infections and inflammations that are associated with CFS and fibromyalgia.
To illustrate, think of debris obstructing an irrigation system in a field. When the channels are blocked, and water can’t get through to the fields (where Ojas is "grown’"), it will dry up. In other words, the immune system is confused and begins to attack healthy tissues.
Things that deplete Ojas are mostly psychological. Factors include anxiety, anger, fear, traumas, and grief. When these psychological factors come into play, Ojas begin to falter and break down. You can exaggerate Ojas depletion by eating too much dry and cold food, sleep deprivation, too much sensory stimulus, overly energetic exercise, overwork, excessive fasting and sudden weight loss.
