Cystic Fibrosis Brought Them Together but Keeps Them Apart

Managing their Cystic Fibrosis

Managing their CF

Their parents focus each day on their two main priorities for Faye and Alfie: “Managing the buildup of mucus in their lungs and trying to keep them well.” The excess lung mucus can prevent breathing and lead to death (Daily Mail/DM).

DM informs us that the kids both sleep poorly due to lung congestion and become very tired with physical exertion. As common to others with CF, they have each required hospitalization (for lung infections).

As the Daily Mail continues, Zoe and Lee must also closely watch the kids to prevent the sharing of lung bacteria. For example, they are not allowed to kiss one another nor share dishes, cups, silverware, and drinks. Their twice-daily physio exercises, to help loosen and remove thick mucus from their lungs, are done in separate rooms. These are the bans and prohibitions placed on Faye and Alfie.
