Her father recalls another time where he and his daughter built their bond. When he was teaching her how to swim, he read that children have an innate ability to hold their breath underwater. Flores-Galbis would throw his daughter in their pool's deep end and then jump in after her. He commented on how he could see her underwater, holding her breath, "I could see that she trusted me. There was not one iota of fear in her."
