Get Up! How a Sedentary Life Can Bring on an Early Death

Working solutions

Unfortunately, many people are more or less tied to their desks all day at work, making movement difficult. Diaz explains his solution isn't creating a standing desk, but finding time to get around, "If you have a job or lifestyle where you have to sit for prolonged periods, the best suggestion I can make is to take a movement break every half hour. Our findings suggest this one behavior change could reduce your risk of death."

Sometimes, taking a general break to walk around the office or getting a drink of water can make all the difference. While Diaz's study may have some faults as noted by Dr. Alter, it is generally recommended by doctors to get up in order to break up the amount of time sitting.
