Gluten-Sniffing Pups Making a Difference for Celiac Patients
The accuracy of a dog's nose
Despite dogs having very powerful snouts that are anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 times stronger than a human nose, scent detection dogs are hardly 100 percent accurate all the time, especially when trying to detect gluten in a specific food in busy areas like malls or school cafeterias. This means that just because a service dog is being used to detect gluten in food or products, the puppy should be solely relied upon. Service dogs, particularly gluten detecting dogs, are not there to necessarily make life easier rather, they are there to make life a little safer.
