How Long Does It Take for the Gut to Repair Itself After Gluten Exposure?
Several celiac patients do not recover fully after a diagnosis.
Only 66% of celiac patients received “normal” intestinal biopsies after five years of following a strict gluten-free diet. This means that even after half a decade, 34% of celiac disease patients had not fully recovered from their gluten-exposures. While there is not a great similar study for non-celiac gluten sensitive patients, it is difficult to compare. However, medical professionals who have received specialized training in the field of gluten-sensitivity treatment believe the time frame is about 18 to 24 months.
