How Sleep Apnea Leads to a Lack of REM Sleep
Dementia
The importance of REM sleep and memory cannot be understated. Less rapid eye movement substantially affects the memories, and this means that a person is at a greater risk of developing dementia.
According to one study, in every reduced amount of REM sleep, there was a 9% increase in the risk of dementia.[4] However, more research needs to be done in the area of dementia and REM sleep in the hope of delaying or even preventing this condition.
