How Sleep Apnea Leads to a Lack of REM Sleep

Some recommendations

  • Public Education: Losing REM is a silent health hazard that causes havoc to our lives, causing many conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, mental health, and dementia. Vigorous campaigns are necessary to alert both the public and health professionals on the impact of REM sleep.
  • Funding Meaningful Research: Further studies and research in this area are necessary so as to quantify the extent of sleep deprivation in general population and in specific groups such as psychiatric patients and recommend a necessary intervention.
