Identified Risk Factors for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
The evaluation and bases for future studies
The study carried out by the UT Southwestern focused on following the evolution of 43 patients suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy for a period of 2 years. The study has provided consistent proof of the aforementioned facts.
It is not a new finding that healthcare can lengthen the lives of patients suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, especially with these last 30 years when patient care science has improved so much. Although Duchenne muscular dystrophy can be considered a rare condition that affects 1 of each 5,000 male infants in the U.S, its consequences can lead to fatal respiratory problems and eventually affect heart muscles.
