It's Time to Celebrate This Family's Inspiring Fight Against Parkinson's

The couple only wanted one thing: For Mike to get his life back.

The Achins' expectations for what a DBS surgery was going to do for Mike was nothing fancy: They only wanted Mike’s “off” periods would go away. They wanted Mike to be able to drive again. They wanted his tremors to go away, which would hopefully lead to improved posture and an improvement in his hunched stance. In essence: He wanted his life back.

A couple of weeks later, Mike and Gail waited in anticipation for the wounds to heal before the stimulators were turned on. They were careful to be hopeful, but not get their hopes up. It’s a difficult tightrope to walk.
