Managing the Mental and Emotional Toll of Diabetes
Managing depression and anxiety
According to a study, when a person with diabetes have depression and anxiety, they run the risk of experiencing the following issues:
- Unable follow a treatment plan
- Getting higher A1C levels
- Higher risk of hospitalization and ER visits
Diabetes affects the blood sugar levels, which in turn affects a person’s mood. Diabetes can cause mood swings if the blood sugar is not properly managed. This can make patients feel alienated especially if family and friends don't understand.
