Mind Over Matter. Why a Panic Attack Consumes You

Being mindful

Fear infiltrates the body and mind to create this nasty occurrence, but if you are mindful of the fact that it is simply your body trying to trick you, and that you are, in fact, safe, you will be alright. You can even consider the experience like watching a horror movie - you are scared of the things on the screen, but deep down you know they are fake and cannot hurt you.

One big mistake that people make is to get down on themselves for not being able to snap out of having panic attacks; however, these reactions don't respond to logic or reason, and isn't your fault. Therefore, it is important not to agitate yourself further.

If there are things you know can calm you down - try them! This might be playing sports, meditating, doing puzzles, or anything that can get your mind back in a place that you recognize and are comfortable with. Going outside, getting enough exercise, and eating healthily are all important contributing factors.
