Muscular Dystrophy: One Disease that Helped Connect Two Families

Methods of treatment

Unfortunately, muscular dystrophy still has no cure. Medical breakthroughs and research are being made each day, but the discovery of the cure that would eliminate the disease is still not achieved. There are certain medications and therapies that could slow the course of the disease that could help manage the condition. Some common therapies include:

  • Physical Therapy: There is a reason why exercise is good for your health. For people afflicted with DMD, it is very helpful to constantly exercise and stretch your muscles. Some low impact exercises that you can perform are swimming and jogging. Remember to take some time to stretch first before performing your preferred exercise.
  • Respiratory Therapy: Having muscular dystrophy can sometimes lead to problems in the respiratory system. Most people with MD have no clue that their respiratory organs would fail and lead to pneumonia. Regular check up with a specialist is advised.
