Create Waterproof Kits
The kits should not only include medications, but should also have a list of current medications, pharmacies, doctors, any complications associated with diabetes, prior surgeries, drug interactions, a list of all current health care providers along with a letter from the primary care physician detailing the latest diabetes regimen, these are helpful if the diabetic is for any reason unconscious. A supply of glucose tablets, ideally for at least thirty days in case blood sugar gets low and there is nothing available to compensate. Blood glucose testing meters complete with unexpired strips, and a sharps container for disposal, batteries and a cooler and cooling gel packs for insulin. If a pump is used for insulin an extra should also be included in the kit along with extra infusion supplies. All should be kept in waterproof cases.
