New Type of Sweat Test Revealed to Diagnose Cystic Fibrosis

New testing methods to Diagnose Cystic Fibrosis

New testing methods

The good thing when it comes to cystic fibrosis is that there is a lot of research being done on the condition at any given time. New technologies and treatments are being developed almost on a daily basis. Scientists have recently discovered that there are several other chemicals found to be present in the sweat of a patient who is positive for cystic fibrosis. These are beyond the chloride cells tested in the traditional sweat test. They believe these new finds are the key to improving testing for the condition. If they can identify and test for these unknown chemicals, it could lead to another option when traditional testing is inconclusive. It could potentially be the go to for testing if the results are that positive. They are also hoping they can use these new resources to monitor the progression of the disease, which again, the sweat test cannot do.
