Significant Changes to Guidelines for Alzheimer's Disease
Associations' push for change
The National Institute on Aging as well as the Alzheimer’s Association (simply known as NIA-AA) didn’t hesitate to lead a collaboration and suggest that a significant review of existing studies must be performed in order to come up with a recommendation for the newest diagnostic guideline and criteria for Alzheimer’s disease. This is in response to the alarming trend, along with the overwhelming number, of dementia cases.
NIA-AA Working Group released a chain of articles last 2011. The outcome of the most updated diagnostic criteria included two vital alterations. First and foremost, it revealed the discussion of the early phase of the disease and the introduction of jargon known as presymptomatic Alzheimer’s disease. Secondly, the significance of biomarker tests that will help in diagnosing the condition was introduced.
