Sleep Apnea May Increase Alzheimer's Risk for Those Genetically Predisposed
The relationship between sleep disorders and dementia
Although this study sets a base for future researches on possible cures for this condition, it is not the first bond found between sleep disorders and the development of dementia and other cognitive conditions. When the difficulty to initiate or to keep sleeping lasts three months or more (although the environmental conditions are favorable to sleep), the person can suffer chronic insomnia. Patients with this disorder have mild cognitive disorders, mainly in complex care tasks, in the process of memory consolidation during sleep and in some aspects of executive functions.
