Study Highlights Role of 6-Minute Walk Test in Predicting the Severity of Sleep Apnea

Treatments for sleep apnea include CPAP, lifestyle changes, and surgery

Treatments for sleep apnea can include lifestyle changes, CPAP, and surgery.

  • Lifestyle Changes: These can include changing your sleep position or losing weight.
  • Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP): Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is a treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, which uses a mask that is worn over the patient’s nose and/or mouth while he or she is asleep. The mask is connected to a machine that provides continuous air flow into the nose, which aids in keeping the airways open to pave way for regular breathing.
  • Surgery: There are various surgeries available to treat sleep apnea as well. The most common surgeries include:
    • Nasal surgery
    • Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP)
    • Mandibular maxillomandibular advancement surgery
