Estimations state that as many as 50% of non-obese patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes should be classified as type 1.5 diabetics.  Note: the Expert Committee on the Diagnosis and Classification of Diabetes Mellitus does not use the term latent autoimmune diabetes or LADA. It includes LADA in the definition of type 1 autoimmune diabetes. The National Institutes of Health or NIDDK states that LADA is type 1 diabetes that has developed in adults.
