The Social Stigma with Diabetes

Current Solutions for Diabetics

As of this moment, in the case of Type 1 diabetes, there is no complete fix for diabetes, but rather there are methods for managing the disease.  Some commonly accepted ways in which diabetics manage their condition include careful attention to blood sugar levels, planned meals, and regular exercise. There is also a rise to alternative methods by which those diagnosed are able to monitor the glucose content in their blood.

The widely accepted method for managing diabetes includes the use of a device that monitors the amount of sugar in the person’s blood.  This is normally done by simply “pricking” one’s finger, which cause a small amount of blood to escape the skin, wherein the user may receive a reading for the glucose levels in their blood at that time.  Although this method has been around for some time now, many of those who are required to do it feel uncomfortable doing it.  This is due in part to the stigma associated with diabetics.  Because of this persistent problem, some companies have dedicated their work to providing a more discreet and convenient way to take glucose readings.
