The benefits of vestibular exercises
Vestibular exercises, also called vestibular rehabilitation (VR), or vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT), are a category of exercises known as a special form of therapy that is intended to relieve both the direct and primary complications, as well as any secondary complications, caused by vestibular (balance) disorders.
VRT is a therapy that is based around particular exercises and techniques that are intended to reduce the occurrence of balance issues such as dizziness, vertigo, vision problems, and overall imbalance.
The goal of VRT is to use sensory compensation to help the body and brain feel balanced. Each of the exercises are designed to address the primary balance issues that an individual might experience. Depending on the primary problems that a patient is having difficulty with, three specific types of exercises may be suggested: Habituation, Gaze Stabilization, and/or Balance Training.
