There are numerous different treatments available for Crohn's disease patients, but not all of those treatments are effective for every patient. Because Crohn’s is an autoimmune disease and inflammatory disorder, the way the patient responds to medication is based on their own immune system and the way it reacts to treatments; everyone is different. Although steroids are effective for flare-ups in the majority of patients, not every patient is able to take steroids or tolerate them for any length of time. Long-term steroid use has been linked to other health risks, so it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of each treatment.
