US Military Personnel Are More At Risk for Sleep Disorders

Sleep disorders among military personnel are quite common

In the New England Journal of Medicine, Colonel Vincent Mysliwiec, MD wrote “A Good Night’s Sleep for Soldiers: One U.S. Army Doctor’s Career. He explained that many troops suffer obstructive sleep apnea: “Diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea increased six-fold and insomnia greater than 2 times during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.” Dr. Mysliweic went on to report that these sleep issues resulted in major medical challenges. Dr. Mysliweic discovered it is necessary to manage the number of active duty personnel with sleep disorders and work with the military to enact changes for sound sleep.
