Using Music to Help Unlock Alzheimer's Patients' Memories
Creating a playlist for someone with Alzheimer's
The main purpose of this program is to have friends and family create playlists for their loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s. The big reveal was noticed by LaPook when Carol started singing some of the lyrics from a song she was listening to through her headphones.
According to Cohen, music is tied to the emotional system and the emotional system remains intact regardless of conditions such as Alzheimer’s. Hopefully, this may trigger other studies in the future that are looking for ways to bring memories back for Alzheimer's patients, or look for other similar ways to trigger emotional responses that will help the patient remember important events.
