Fecal Calprotectin Measurement Benefits IBD Diagnosis in Children, Study Says
New research
The new study, “Use of Laboratory Markers in Addition to Symptoms for Diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Children”, was published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. For children, this invasive procedure can be rather unpleasant. Therefore, the researchers decided to investigate whether blood markers or the fecal calprotectin test could, in fact, improve the accuracy of an IBD diagnosis in children. They used two main databases, EMBASE and MEDLINE, to review the potential of an IBD diagnosis in pediatric patients with chronic gastrointestinal symptoms.
