Depression and Anxiety Are Real Issues for Those with Rheumatoid Arthritis

The relationship between mental health and RA

Why are these mood imbalances so common in people with rheumatoid? There are only a few studies that have actually looked at the relationship between depression and rheumatoid, but there are many possible reasons for why someone with rheumatoid might be more susceptible to developing depression and anxiety. For one, pain is consistently linked to depression, which is something that all rheumatoid patients are all too familiar with. On top of that, a chronic debilitating disease makes it harder for you to do normal, everyday things that a lot of people take for granted - losing the ability to do something you enjoy is a huge risk factor for becoming depressed.
