How Pre-Existing Drugs May Help Fight Multiple Sclerosis
Are the benefits worth it?
At this stage, what researchers don’t know is whether or not clomipramine will actually benefit MS patients enough to warrant use, and that’s what they’re trying to figure out. A team is currently testing the effects of the drug on the neurological system with mice in order to quantify the possible benefits it might offer. Once that data has been gathered, the researchers will then know whether to move on into human trials or whether to pursue a different drug instead. Theoretically, the process should be able to move relatively quickly since the safeness of the drug and its side effects are already known. Hopefully, researchers will be able to use this information effectively to identify a new option for the treatment of progressive MS.
