Parent's Rheumatoid Arthritis May Put Child at Risk for Epilepsy
Distinction of autoimmune epilepsy
Though the findings are definitely exciting, there needs to be more research before scientists take the plunge and use autoimmune drugs against this seizure disorder. We need to know more about what kinds of epilepsy develop from autoimmunity, and how we can identify it from the other types. We don't want to give autoimmune drugs to someone whose epilepsy wasn't caused by immune reactions after all. If we did that, we would be exposing these people to all the side effects of these drugs for no additional benefit at all.
