Seasonal Effects on Multiple Sclerosis

The curious case of autumn

Some MS patients say their symptoms get progressively worse during the spring and summer, but die down during the beginning of autumn. This presents a very terrible dilemma for MS patients. Spring and summer are supposed to be when people spend time in the sun, taking in nature and the great outdoors. But for MS patients, that is often impossible. MS patients tend to feel weak, tired, and achy during the spring and summer seasons. So, why do spring and summer feel so bad for MS patients? The answer, surprisingly, has to do with the sun itself.

Heat and humidity tend to make everyone a little tired, but studies have shown that their effects on MS can be very devastating. Numerous studies have shown that heat can greatly increase the activity levels of MS which means that patients will face stronger symptoms and sapped energy all throughout the season.
