Promising 'Stop Switch' Discovered that Could Stop Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in its Tracks
Inherited genes may be to blame
It turns out that having a unique genetic code that results in less PD-1 production could be related to the consequence of getting cancer. In the case of having T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, having suppressed PD-1 because you inherited some unique mutations would mean that you are no longer able to use a stop switch to protect yourself from tumor cells. Based on this theory, these are the people who are now more likely to get very aggressive cases of T-cell Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
