Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: How to Live With It
Causes
The cause of SLE is still unknown. However, studies show that factors like genetics, environmental, and hormonal may be considered.
Genetics
Some lupus patients have family members with other autoimmune conditions.
Environmental
Ultraviolet rays, certain medications, viruses, physical or emotional stress, and trauma are also believed to be the causes of systemic lupus erythematosus.
Hormonal
Since women are the common victims of SLE, professionals have then considered the female hormone, estrogen, as a possible cause of SLE. However, there is still the need to have further research to prove this link between estrogen and SLE. Again, these possible causes are still not strongly supported by facts. So, further studies are still conducted to identify the real cause of systemic lupus erythematosus.
