The Importance of Maintaining CPAP Settings

All it takes is one night?

For some, yes!  For others, those who have a particularly difficult AHI to determine may be sent home with a fancy self-adjusting CPAP machine - also known as CPAP or APAP.

Doctors and technologists will set a range of air pressures from low to high.  When the patient goes to sleep, the machine will start low and based on the patient’s reaction to the intermittent pulses of air, will adjust accordingly.

Basically, if the machine senses that there is still resistance in the airways it will automatically increase the air pressure.  If the machine senses that the airways are remaining open it will maintain the pressure for the remainder of the night.
