Resistance Training May Benefit Multiple Sclerosis, Study Finds
Exercise and MS
In the past, studies have already found a link between symptom relief and exercise for multiple sclerosis patients. There is evidence that physical activity can not only help increase strength and aerobic endurance, but it can also improve the patient's walking ability. Ultimately, many patients are thus able to achieve improvements in fatigue, balance, and quality of life.
Though researchers have known that exercise improves symptoms in multiple sclerosis, no one had looked at how it affects disease progression.
These studies never looked at specific outcome measures used periodically to monitor disease in these patients. A new study of researchers has set out to do this very task. They are the first to find evidence that suggests a neuroprotective effect of regular, physical activity specifically in multiple sclerosis patients.
