Understanding Pain in Diabetic Neuropathy
Diabetic Neuropathy
Painful diabetic neuropathy has been discovered as the condition some diabetes experience when their diabetes causes nerve damage and in turn chronic pain. Currently there are over four hundred and fifteen million adults that have diabetes. This number is rising every day. With current data about diabetics a third of these diabetics are predicted to suffer from chronic pain.
As more doctors and researchers have learned about PDN and worked with patients it is clear it presents itself differently each time. Every patient may feel pain in their own way and therefore has their own sensory profile. These profiles can be used to better help diabetics with PDN by giving doctors an idea of what their patients may need for treatments. However, every patient needs to be treated individually with extensive questioning and testing to what their sensory profile is.
