Using Biotechnology to Slow Down Alzheimer's Symptoms
Using it for Lewy Body Dementia
Unfortunately, when the results of the clinical trial were announced in late September, the lackluster performance already seen in the GSK clinical trials was confirmed. The company reported that at 24-weeks into the trial, patient scores on the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive Subscale (ADAS-Cog) and the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study-Activities of Daily Living Scale (ADCS-ADL) both showed no improvement compared to patients receiving a placebo. While the hope for intepirdine to be used to help people with Alzheimer’s is lost, there’s still a possibility of using the drug to treat other cognitive diseases. The company is also looking at how it may be used to help people with Lewy Body Dementia.
