Vitamin A Linked to Severe Inflammation of the Gut
A connection with Alzheimer's?
Some studies suggest that beta-carotene seems to be linked to a higher risk of inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract and Alzheimer’s disease; however, more research needs to be conducted before deriving to any specific conclusions. What is known about vitamin A is that it helps fight off inflammation and infections by keeping the immune system healthy. Therefore, a diet rich in beta-carotene, containing rich fruits (cantaloupe, mango, papaya) and vegetables (sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach), could help fight off infections, inflammations, and several types of diseases. Still, it is important to be aware of too much vitamin A, especially if you are suffering from inflammatory diseases such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease.
