6 Reasons Why It's Harder for Men to Be Diagnosed with Fibromyalgia

5. Physical symptoms may be similar to other conditions

Fibromyalgia often mimics other conditions such as anemia, anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, hypothyroidism myofascial pain syndrome, multiple sclerosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. This means it can overlap with these conditions and make it a minefield for doctors to diagnose the disease.

This gets even harder to diagnose if men don’t submit themselves to a thorough physical examination. Medical doctors often eliminate causes of possible pain before ruling out fibromyalgia diagnosis.
