22-Year-Old Nursing Graduate Blogs Her Way Through Cancer
Katie started a blog to write about her experience with lymphoma
Out of boredom and frustration Katie’s Blog, “Tuesdays With Katie” was born. In the blog, Katie DeMasi would write about her treatments, which was told in a humane and deeply personal way.
The blog initially began as a place for her to record and share all of the weird new things that became a regular part of her life. “I was so bored - I wasn’t working. I wasn’t doing anything,” DeMasi explained. Her mother had been the one to encourage her to start it, praising her for her positive attitude in such a scary situation. She decided to give it a shot even though she didn’t know the first thing about it. “I literally didn’t know anything about blogging,” DeMasi said. “I had to Google ‘how to blog.’”
“I started the blog at the beginning of October. It started because during this time I had my eggs frozen, I had all these doctors' appointments, and funny things just kept happening - I was making jokes about it. I can be serious when I need to be, but in this matter I just felt like, 'I’m gonna have a good attitude about this.’ I’ve always been the funny girl,” DeMasi explained in an interview with Refinery 29.
