10 Ways to Enhance Parenting Styles for Children with Autism

Know your limits

1. Know your limits

Your child is only half of the equation. You are the other half. If you become stressed out, then your child will as well. Keep an eye on your own frustration levels and if you find that you are becoming stressed out, take a break.

Tag team with your partner. If you don't have a partner, walking away (if the situation is safe) is not neglect. If you get to the point where you're stressed out enough that your child will feel it, taking a break is not endangering your child. Safety and protecting against stress covers your stress, too. Sometimes both parties need a break.
