Helping Children to Understand Grandpa's Alzheimer's

Finding additional support

Some children might have complications in understanding or adapting to Alzheimer’s in the family. In these cases, additional support might be pivotal in helping them in coming to terms with Grandpa’s condition. Alzheimer’s support groups for children who have a patient in the family may be able to lend the support necessary for them to cope with the condition. If there are no such groups nearby, then the school counselor might be able to lend guidance on the matter, or even find them a group of children going through a similar situation and create a support group then and there. As a last resort, a call to the local Alzheimer’s foundation might just be the ticket necessary to find a support group for the child.
