Real Housewives Star Jacqueline Laurita Discusses Her Son's Autism Diagnosis

A parent's reaction

Dr. Pamela Compart, a developmental pediatrician with HeartLight Healing Arts in Columbia, MD, says most parents need to grieve for what they thought their child’s future would hold. Dr. Compart says it is not like the child cannot have that future you always wanted for them, it is just going to be a different journey to get there and the outcome may need to change.

She says although autism awareness has risen extensively in the past few years, there is still some uncertainty around it. You cannot shirt from grief to hope immediately. Parents need to go to the worst-case scenario in their minds before they can start to come back up.
